TL;DR

Scan the code with QR Code Reader & Generator (or upload a photo to our free online scanner). The app displays the full decoded URL on screen first instead of blindly launching a browser.

How to Preview QR Code Destinations Safely on iPhone

  1. Open QR Code Reader & Generator and verify auto-open is off

In Settings → Reader, keep 'Open URL Automatically' turned OFF so no webpage can launch without your review.

  2. Scan the QR code from Camera or Photos

Point the Reader camera at the QR code or import a screenshot via 'Scan from Photos'.

  3. Inspect the full decoded URL on the result screen

Read the entire domain name, HTTPS protocol, and URL path on the result view. Only tap Open if you recognize and trust the domain.

Can simply scanning a QR code infect my iPhone?

Decoding a QR code in QR Code Reader & Generator simply reads the text encoded inside the squares—it does not execute code or open websites automatically. The risk comes from opening an untrusted link and entering passwords or payment card details on a phishing page.
